DEGREES OF GREATNESS

READ: 1 SAMUEL 17:26-28
In greatness, there are also degrees and levels. Abraham was great (Genesis 24:34-35). This is the first and the lowest level of greatness. Isaac, Abraham’s son attained the next level of greatness. Genesis 26:12-13 says he was very great. Jacob, Isaac’s son also beat his father’s record by attaining a higher level of greatness. Genesis 30:45 says he was exceedingly great. Where do you belong? The highest level of greatness is where God has called you to. You will get there in Jesus name.
How will you identify the average person? The average person can hide within the crowd. They easily blend into the crowd without being noticed. An example of this is found in 1 Samuel 17:22-24. When Goliath came to the battle front, the average Israelite soldier went into hiding. Goliath, being a giant could not hide without being noticed. In the same way, during a state function, invited guests and functionaries are grouped into various categories according to their status. The announcer will say; ‘The president and vice president will be entertained in the V.I.P suite; governors and commissioners will be entertained in the executive lounge. Traditional rulers, managing directors of banks, captains of industry and local government chairmen will be entertained in the special reception hall. All other guest should move to the open space outside for their entertainment.’ The category of ‘all others’ comprises the average people. Ask God to remove you from this group and make you an important personality.
Another attribute of average people is that they attempt to slow down others who want to be outstanding. They are not prepared to make progress, yet they will not allow those who want progress to move on (Matthew 23:13). They prefer everyone remained in the valley. According to our reading, Eliab, David’s eldest brother tried to dissuade David from confronting Goliath. He meant that David should remain unknown, live and die a shepherd. One thing that is common with the average people is that they are all imprisoned by fear. The fear of failure will never make them take a step into greatness. As long as you are afraid, you will remain in your cocoon of nothingness. Come out of that  prison today and march into greatness.
MEMORIZE: GENESIS 26:13 –And the man waxed great and went forward, and grew until he became very great.
