APPLYING THE KEYS

READ: JAMES 1:21-25
The difference between the successful and the unsuccessful, the accomplishing and the reclining, the progressive and the stagnant, is what they do with the word of God they have received. The Scripture talks about two classes of hearers – ‘the hearers’ only and ‘the hearers’ and doers of the word. From time to time, the Lord releases secrets and keys to unlocking doors to wealth, victorious Christian living, victory over enemies, fruitfulness and other blessings. These keys are eventually passed down to the congregation through messages or sermons. Imagine how such a pastor would feel if long after the keys have been handed over, members are still suffering for failing to apply them. if you can also feel the pulse of the Most High, you will sense that He is very unhappy.
Are you in the ‘hearers only’ club? This is the wrong place to belong. Many of us have received the keys to unlock closed doors of opportunities. Such keys should take us from where we are to where we should be. But we have remained where we are because of complacency. And we blame Satan, and our enemies for our woes! Whereas we are the ceiling over our own progress. We must change or nothing good will ever come forth.
How do you respond to God’s word? Whenever God sends His word, He has certain reasons for doing so. It could be to save your soul (James 1:21), heal and deliver you (Psalm 107:20), provide comfort and hope during times of affliction (Psalm 119:49-50); give you wisdom to overcome your enemies (Psalm 119:98); prosper, and cause you to succeed (Joshua 1:8), etc… By remaining indifferent to the word, you frustrate God’s purposes and indirectly turn Him into a liar in your life and before unbelievers.
Your reaction to the word will either make it work in you or not. What have you done with all you have been hearing? How much of God’s word have you put into practice? What have you done, with the words of knowledge and wisdom the Lord has spoken concerning your case at various meetings? The ball is now in your court.
MEMORIZE: JAMES 1:25 –But whoso looks into the perfect law of liberty, and continues therein, he being not a forgetful hearer, but a doer of the work, this man shall be blessed in his deed.
