REWARDS FOR THE DISTRESSED

READ: MATTHEW 8:1-3
In 1 Samuel 22:1-2, the distressed, debtors, and discontented people ran to David in the cave Adullam, and he became their captain. They stayed with him because he filled the vacuum in their lives and provided comfort for them. Like David, the story was the same with our Lord Jesus Christ. The difference is that Jesus had capacity to bring success to greater multitudes compared to David. And He could do what man could not.
In Mark 5:21-24, 35-43, Jairus with an only daughter came to the Lord. In Israel, when taking census of children, it is the male children they count. It is with reluctance they count the females. So you can imagine Jairus with no son, yet the only daughter he had died. The man was in great distress. Unlike some people, his sense of judgement was not blinded by the distress. He did not go to the wrong places people suggested he should. His mind was fixed on the Lord. At the end, his twelve year old daughter lived again. Where is your gaze in times of distress? Whom do you call when in distress?
Jairus ran to Jesus in his distress. As soon as the Lord intervened, he suddenly became famous. What should have been his worst sorrow became his greatest joy. Of all the great men that lived in the days of Jairus, he was the only one recorded for us. Do you know that problem presently causing you stress, sorrow and tears can become your greatest source of joy, celebration and fame? Satan may keep pushing hard at you but unfortunately for him and fortunately for you, he will push you to Jesus and suddenly the tide will turn.
In today’s reading we are told of a leper. A leper is one with an incurable disease, who lives among fellow lepers, isolated outside the city. If he has to come into town for any reason, he begins to ring a bell, shouting ‘unclean!’, ‘unclean!’ This leper was very poor because nobody would offer him a job. He had to beg to eat. He was lonely, sorrowful and hopeless, but when he came to Jesus, he was healed. Suddenly he could work again. He could live among his relations and loved ones again. His joy was full. The Lord will turn your tears of sorrow into tears of joy this year. Look up to Him. Call on Him today and live daily in obedience and service to His majesty.
MEMORIZE: PSALM 107:6 –Then they cried to the Lord in their trouble, and He delivered them out of their distresses.
