READ: JOHN
17:6-12
“For it became Him,
for whom are all things, and by whom are all things, in bringing many sons to
glory, to make the captain of their salvation perfect through sufferings.” (Hebrews 2:10)
Jesus Christ is our Captain. Are you a parent, leader, pastor or head of a department? You too are captain. How are you leading those under you? In Matthew 20:28, Jesus said He did not come to be served but to serve. This shows another duty of a captain. A captain serves those under him. A true captain is always the last to eat. When Jesus fed the multitudes, those who ate last evidently were the disciples because they were the ones distributing the food. Jesus would not have eaten until the disciples had been served.
Today, it is the pastors and leaders that are first served. If this is not done, you will see them fighting for food. This reverses the order instituted by our Lord Jesus Christ. If you will become a great leader of men and minister of God, you must take the last position and put others before you. In addition, the captain is the representative of the team. Jesus Christ our captain is always representing us in Heaven. He is our Lawyer who stands to plead our case free of charge against the strong opposing accusations of Satan (1 John 2:1). You must be prepared to stand and defend your team against external attacks and comments. But privately correct erring team members at home. A true captain will not expose his team members to public ridicule.
In John 15:13, Jesus says, “Greater love has no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends.” A captain will both love and cherish his team because they are precious to him. Whatever he does will be propelled by his deep-rooted love for his team. In John 3:16, God out of his great love, gave Jesus for the whole world. But at a more crucial moment, Jesus restricted His prayer to members of His team (John 17:9). How much do you love your team? If you correct them in love, they will easily and the chances of such disciplinary measure becoming successful will be higher. Are you a captain like the Lord? Arise and adopt His methods today.
