MALACHI 1:6-7
Just as a
captain has responsibilities, so also he does have privileges. A captain who
does his job very well should automatically earn the honour of his team
members. The Lord has protected you from birth till now. He has loved you to
the point of dying for you. He paid the debt you owed and declared you free. In
spite of these, He provided all you will ever need on earth. Thereafter, He
went to prepare a place for you in Heaven where you will live with Him
throughout eternity. He is the true captain of your salvation. Do you give Him
His due honour? According to our reading, if you claim to be a true child of
God, then you will demonstrate it by honouring Him.
A good captain would appreciate the followership of his team members. The Lord deserves your whole-hearted and unreserved followership. Some people follow the Lord only when it is convenient. But when it becomes more challenging. They stop. A true team player and follower of Jesus Christ will follow Him to the end. In Luke 9:62, Jesus said any team player who has put his or her hands on the plough and looks back becomes unfit for Heaven. To look back is to take your focus away from the Lord, His word and Heaven. To look back is to concentrate on the things of earth and to love them above the Lord, like Lot’s wife. It is to deliberately return to your former sinful lifestyle like a dog to its vomit. Are those sins of the past gradually finding their way back into your life? Repent and immediately arrest that negative trend.
You will joyfully fellowship with your Captain if you are a true member of His team. You will enjoy His company because according to Psalm 23:6, as you fellowship regularly with Him, goodness and mercy will follow you continuously. If your continuous absence at church meetings does not prick your conscience, it means you are longer a team member. Apart from these, you will love and appreciate your Captain for the good work He is doing in your life. When last did you praise and thank Him for making you what you are today? Are you really a part of His team?
