THE LOSERS’ CLUB

READ: 2 SAMUEL 12:9-14
In the Christian race, there are two broad groups, one of which you belong to at a point in time. The winners’ and the losers’ clubs. If you belong to the former, no matter what happens, you will eventually emerge winner. If you belong to the latter, no matter what happens, you will end up a loser. Which of these clubs do you belong to? Hold your answer for a minute! “But be you doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves.” (James 1:22)
The ‘hearers-only’ Christians are those who constitute the loser’s club. They take pleasure in hearing, reading and probably studying God’s word. They never make an effort to put it into practice. The following characterise those in this class: ‘the forgetful hearers’ James 1:22-25. These have a spiritual hearing problem. Tell them something now, and ask them within the next one or two minutes, they will tell you they have forgotten. Time spent talking to them is wasted. They lack the ability to retain anything you tell them. James likens such a believer to a man who, while dressing up to represent his organisation in an important occasion, goes before the mirror and seeing soup stains on his white suit screams. But immediately he moves away from the mirror, he forgets about the stains and heads for the party. You can be sure he will be a great embarrassment, both to himself and to the organisation he represents. You represent the Most High God in the midst of men. Do you know that every word of God you hear and refuse to put into practice, brings great embarrassment to God, the entire body of Christ, your family and yourself (2 Samuel 12:9-14)?
Believers abound today who are forgetful hearers. They pray, fast, attend anointing service and even meet men of God especially to pray and break the yoke of poverty in their lives. But when you teach them to use the key of giving to open the door of prosperity, they will tell you it doesn’t matter. So they remain in poverty and paint God as one who cannot prosper His own. When such ‘hearers-only’ believers come to church, they take only their Bibles. They do not take notebooks and biros to record the secrets of God’s word which would be unveiled to them. It simply shows they do not expect anything; is it a surprise they receive nothing? Do you belong to this club? Repent today, and begin to act on the word of God.
MEMORIZE: JAMES 1:22 –But be you doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves.
