SECULAR INVESTMENTS

READ: 2 KINGS 13:14-17
Your children are your greatest assets. Today, they may be so tender, fragile, helpless, undeveloped and completely dependent on you. Yet they will promote your name, support and defend you in later years. For some, their children will be a huge source of both physical and spiritual wealth. How are you responding to their needs today? A farmer that desires a great harvest tomorrow will be prepared to starve himself today and sow his best seedlings. How are you preparing your children to be great in future?
It is what you give that will determine what you will get. Some parents weep over their children who have brought them shame and terrible reproach but fail to see that they are the real culprits. When you do not take pains to monitor your children’s interests, the company they keep, the programmes they watch on television, the sites they browse on the internet, the places they go and the people and things that strongly influence and mould their opinion about life, how can you contribute to their greatness?
There are several areas parents should invest into their children so as to reap a positive harvest tomorrow. Provision of basic needs such as food, clothing and shelter is one such. 1 Timothy 5:8 says the so-called believer who fails to do this is worse than those who never believed in God. When such needs are not met, they give room for children to engage in ungodly behaviour such as low self-esteem, begging, stealing, etc… An educated person without morals makes rubbish of his education (Proverbs 1:1-9). Children should be taught to imbibe virtues of honesty, diligence, obedience, respect for elders, and how to relate with others.
A qualitative education is another area of investment for the children. Proverbs say wisdom is the principal thing. Wisdom, knowledge and understanding are inter-related. It is when you receive knowledge and have a deep understanding of it that you will be able to apply it correctly (wisdom). Give your children the best. If you can afford the best of schools, send them there. The higher the student, the better the opportunities for development. Prayerfully select schools that can adequately develop the children through in secular, spiritual and social education. As the world becomes a global village through the internet, your child in Nigeria can be open to opportunities for children in Europe, America etc… Make room for greater levels of development for them. Provide facilities necessary for them to compete favourably with their counterparts all over the world. Arise today and begin to prepare your children for the future.
MEMORIZE: 2 CORINTHIANS 12:14 –Behold the third time I am ready to come to you and I will not be burdensome to you; for I seek not yours but you; for the children ought not to lay up for the parents, but the parents for the children.
