HANDLING UPRISINGS

READ: PSALM 18:37-47
While leading others, the people under you may sometimes revolt against you. This does not make them your enemies. Satan is behind such moves. Judas did it to Jesus. An example of this is when ministers and workers gang up against their pastor. Or when subordinates in your office plot against you. How do you handle this? It is difficult to fight against your brethren or associates; hence utmost care is required here. In Numbers 12:1-16, when Miriam and Aaron ganged up against their younger brother, Moses, he simply said nothing. He was most disappointed that Satan instigated members of his family, whom God has appointed leaders under him. How can he fight them? He pretended he did not hear them, so God took it up. When the ten spies returned with a disturbing report and the congregation revolted against the leadership, Moses and Aaron fell on their faces and God showed up and handled the situation (Numbers 14:1-10).
Moses did not keep quiet out of fear. He was highly anointed but he did not want to use the anointing meant to build his spiritual children to destroy them. Moses displayed great restraint in his dealing with the children of Israel, hence Numbers 12:3 judged him the meekest of men. When people under you rise up against you, how do you respond? Will you call down fire and brim stone on them? No that is a wrong step. They could be used of the devil, but they are not the devil. Do not make it a carnal fight.
Today’s reading says, it is God that can subdue your people under you. If you are sure it is God that put you there in the first place, then anyone who challenges your authority is challenging the One who put you there. Go back to God. Psalm 110:1 says you draw closer to God at such moments, and He will subdue the uprising. A young pastor was vehemently opposed by the altar ministers not long after he was posted to a parish. They did everything possible to frustrate him. Initially, he was becoming discouraged but when he took it to the Lord, within three days the leader of the revolt was transferred by his Area pastor to another parish and peace was restored to that parish. In addition, you could use Luke 10:19 as basis for binding the satanic forces operating in the brethren and destroy their mission. Let us restrain.
MEMORIZE: PSALM 18:39 –For You have girded me with strength to the battle; You have subdued under me those that rose up against me.
