MATTHEW 14:1-12
It is easy to receive a blessing from
somebody, but to receive a very special one; you will have to touch the
person’s heart. They say the way to man’s heart is good food. A woman, who
desires the best from her husband, must be ready to touch his heart. One way of
doing this is through food. In our dealings with God, we can receive the
regular blessings. To receive the extra-ordinary blessings requires touching
God’s heart. There are at least three major ways of doing this: through prise,
giving and evangelism.
In our reading today, we are told that king Herod imprisoned John the Baptist for condemning his adulterous act. As his lords gathered with him to mark his birthday, his daughter so thrilled the audience particularly her father, that he swore to give her whatever she requested. Then she asked for John’s head. The king had to keep his oath. If you can touch God’s heart through praise, you will reap some great dividends. Whatever God has promised or desired to do for you, but became reluctant due to some inconsistencies on your part, He will make up his mind to fulfil it.
When you touch God’s heart, it can move Him to swear an oath to bless you. Whenever God takes such an oath, you can be sure He will be bound before the heavenly hosts to fulfil it as He did to Abraham (Genesis 22:16-19). Also when you touch God’s heart, it can make God to give you an open cheque: ‘Ask whatever you want and I will do it for you.’ In John 14:13-14, Jesus says, “And whatsoever you shall ask in my name, that will I do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son. If you shall ask anything in my name, I will do it.”
Have you wondered why you have stood on that Scripture without any result? It is because you have not pleased God to the point of touching His heart. When you worship God like David, with all your heart, strength and concentration not minding who you are, or who is there, you can touch God’s heart (2 Samuel 6:14-16, 22). One reason David got away with several short comings was because He knew how to always touch God’s heart. King Saul had fewer shortcomings but because his worship of God was plastic, God rejected him. The choice is yours. You could be plastic in your worship and remain limited or touch God’s heart in great worship and be unlimited.
