READ: JOHN
18:30
The Lord
Jesus Christ went through a lot of suffering for us. According to Isaiah 53,
the price He paid was all-embracing. He lost His beauty so as to absorb our
ugliness. He was despised and rejected so that we can be desired and accepted.
He took away all our grieves and sorrows so that we can have rest of mind and
lasting joy. He took the punishment for our sins. He lost His peace so that we
can never be troubled again. He was beaten and wounded to take away all
possible diseases that can afflict us today.
Jesus paid it all. The evidence is in His body. 2 Corinthians 8:9 says, Jesus accepted our poverty in exchange for His wealth. We should now live in abundance, not lack: Praise God. But unfortunately, many of us cannot appreciate the extent of the Cross, and how it affects us. Some, who know, have not accepted this and as a result are still living far below His provision. This makes Jesus very sad. Jesus is unhappy seeing you in captivity when He has already paid for your freedom. His heart melts with grief when He sees you sick when He holds the receipt of your healing. Are you living below God’s provision? Repent and occupy your exalted position.
When we get to Heaven, many believers would plead with God to let them return to the earth to fully partake of the provisions the Cross had provided for, but it will be too late. The story was told of a young man whose dream was to go to America. He used his life’s savings to purchase the ticket and boarded the ship for America. Considering he had very little left, he quickly bought some hardened, less nourishing biscuits in large quantity and went and locked himself up in his room.
Daily, he would perceive the aroma of great dishes being served on board. He would hear people enjoying themselves, playing one game or the other but he would not go out because he could not afford it. This continued for weeks. A day before arriving in America, the captain came to knock on his door. He asked why he had not been coming to take his meals and leisure all the while. The man said he could not afford to. Then the captain told him, his ticket covered all such expenses. So he came out and enjoyed the meals for the day and thereafter the ship berthed in America. As he disembarked with other passengers, he wished he could have had all the meals and benefits he had lost. Many Christians will wish they could return to earth to live as they should have when they get to heaven; I shall not be among them.
