READ: PSALM
1:1-3
God
designed you to win right from the very beginning. You were conceived and born
a winner. Sin reduced you to a loser but the moment you were recreated in
Christ, you resumed your winning career. To win, you must remain in the club of
winners. In James 1:25, we are told those who belong to this highly privileged
club are those who delight in practicing the word of God continually. This
excludes those who practice God’s word or obey Him once in a while. You have to
be a die-hard obedient follower of the Lord to belong to this club. This is the
heavenly Lord’s club. Every member here, having enslaved himself to Jesus, is
made a Lord to people, situations and circumstances. Do you belong to this
club?
The doers of the word are compared to a flowing river which remains fresh, clean and constantly releasing life to others. They can also be seen as vessels and channels through which God’s blessings flow. According to our reading, members of this club are compared to a tree planted by the rivers of water, which never lacks nourishment, irrespective of the season. Those who belong to this club are characterised by a passion to obey God. They wait on His every word and immediately obey it. They are consumed with love for God. Their goal in life is to please Him in all things. They will abstain from whatever God hates, and run far away from sin like Joseph did.
Members of this club do not consult with people before they obey God. When God said to Abraham to go and offer Isaac, he did not discuss it with Sarah. If he had done so, Sarah would have refused and prevented the extra-ordinary blessing that was coming their way. When God has told you to do a hard thing, do you not deliberately discuss it with those you know are capable of discouraging you, so that later tell God, ‘Lord, You know I was willing: it was my wife that prevented me?’ It shows you do not yet belong to this class. Members of the winners’ club set God always before them (Psalm 16:8). They know every word of God must be obeyed. They obey willingly. As a result, they enjoy God’s abiding presence (John 8:28). Any business they touch becomes gold (Psalm 1:3; Joshua 1:8). They have the best (reserved) portion of every blessing (Isaiah 1:19). They receive their desires (Psalm 37:4). Their joy is full (Psalm 16:11) and whatever they decree on any situation becomes so (Psalm 37:5-6). You belong to this club. Begin to obey God completely from today.
