GENESIS 8:15-22
Noah and
his household had just been preserved through the flood. On disembarking from
the ark, Noah in appreciation of God’s mighty deliverance erected an altar and
made quality offerings of clean animals in large number unto God.
“And the Lord smelled a soothing aroma. Then the Lord said in His heart, I will never again curse the ground for man’s sake, although the imagination of man’s heart is evil from his youth; nor will I again destroy every living thing as I have done.” (Genesis 8:21)
Noah’s offering was outstanding. The first thing we realize about this offering is that Noah was not an ingrate. He appreciated the salvation of himself and his family and the extent God went to preserve them through the flood. The Scripture says, “Therefore He is also able to save to the uttermost those who come to God through Him, since He ever lives to make intercession for them.” (Hebrews 7:25).
Can you imagine the extent God has gone to keep you alive till today? Imagine the great sacrifices the Lord still makes for you regularly? Do you appreciate the unseen battles the Lord is fighting and winning on your behalf? If the Lord reveals one third of these enemies to you, your heart will faint. This is why you have to remain appreciative of His mercies.
And, although Noah lived before the law, he knew he had to give the first fruits of all the clean animals to the Lord. Do you give your first fruits today? God deserves your best gifts. What kind of gift do you give Him today? Is it your best or the leftover?
Noah gave out of his heart. God was so pleased by his offering that He resolved never to destroy the world again with flood. You too can give the kind of offering that will make God take a favourable and unchangeable decision concerning you and generations after you. Have you provoked God to such a blessing?
