THE SAMARITAN LEPER

READ: LUKE 17:11-19

Enroute Jerusalem, one day, Jesus passed by the coasts of Samaria and Galilee. As He went, He met ten lepers who had faith to be healed but kept their distance. They called out for mercy and Jesus gave a simple reply, ‘Go and show yourselves to the priests.’ That appeared a simple thing to do. But it also appeared the most absurd way to be healed. What was the connection between healing and paying a visit to the priest? The good thing was that the lepers were wise enough not to question the seemingly foolish method adopted by the Lord.
In those days, the law provided that when a leper, by one miraculous means or another was healed, he was to leave the isolated colony of fellow lepers and go to meet the priest who will carry out medical examinations on him and conforming his claims, would ask him to offer certain sacrifices according to the law and thereafter publicly certify him ‘cleansed’ so that he can be re-absorbed into the society. Acting on the Lord’s instruction therefore meant that they had already been healed and were going to get the certification of the priest. This simply shows that God can give you your miracle anyway He chooses, and that what brings about the change is your obedience to His word.
On their way, all the lepers suddenly realized they were healed. Nine of them never said a word of appreciation but the Samaritan leper shouted, ‘Praise God!’ After which he turned around, and returned to Jesus and fell at His feet in worship and thanksgiving. “And He said to him, Arise, go your way. Your faith has made you well.” Luke 17:19.
Thanksgiving is an act of faith. Refusal to thank God for what He has done is a step in unbelief. Thanksgiving is a means by which the blessing can be secured and you can be restored to wholeness. Whenever Jesus more miracles, He began to thank God. Thanksgiving is the trigger for releasing greater blessings. The Samaritan only returned to appreciate God for healing Him but he got more than he bargained for. Jesus publicly exalted and commended his act of faith and thereafter restored all the years leprosy had eaten from him. Failure to thank God is a fast way of losing what you have received and shutting the door against more supplies. There is a reward for thanksgiving. Thank God and receive yours today.

MEMORIZE: DEUTERONOMY 8:10 –When you have eaten and are full, then you shall bless the LORD your God for the good land which he has given you.
