JOHN 6-8
A disciple
is a disciplined follower of Jesus Christ. This presupposes that the disciple
has a mentor whom he follows step by step. Who is your mentor? Jesus Christ is
the true model, perfect example and mentor every human being has been given.
Since you accepted Him as your Lord, to what extent have you copied and adopted
His pattern of life?
Show me a lying believer and I will show you a non-Jesus’ disciple. 1 Peter 2:21 says we should follow the example Jesus has established and step where He stepped. You cannot be secretly fornicating and you call yourself a Christian, not to talk of a disciple. If you are still holding grudges and hatred in your heart, you are not following the path of the disciple of Jesus. To be a true disciple of Jesus, you must daily aspire to be like your Master Jesus Christ in everything.
Becoming like Him means you will drop your carnal goals for His plan for your life. It also means you will study more about Him and how He handled various situations so that you too can respond in the same way.
Another attribute of a disciple is that he is humble enough to learn. He realises he knows little or nothing and so he is ever ready to learn. How teachable are you? Do not feel offended when those you think are not as good as yourself are preaching? Anyone who feels he has arrived definitely has no destination to head for. If you believe you already know too much, God will not be prepared to teach you anything more. Such a person cannot be Christ’s disciple. Humble yourself at His feet daily and He will give you the word of life. It is only the thirsty He will fill with knowledge. When last did you thirst after Him? You think you have arrived having graduated from the Mission’s School of Discipleship, or Bible College? You have not even got up to a cup of knowledge from His deep well. If you stop where you are, you may never amount to anything. Jesus says, ‘Learn of me.’ How much of Him you know will determine how much of your destiny you will fulfil. Move on today.
