READ: JOB
42:1-9
“He who trusts in his
riches will fall, but the righteous will flourish like foliage.” Proverbs 11:28.
The material things of the earth have one thing in common: they do not last. The Scriptures says riches grow wings and fly away hence no heaven-bound saint should put his trust or hope in them, but in the Lord.
Job was committed and God-fearing man. He lived in the days of Abraham, before the law of Moses was given. The Lord blessed him so much that he became the wealthiest man in the East.
Certain events triggered a reverse of his pleasant state. The first thing we see is that God openly boasted to Satan of Job’s consistency and devotion. This conversation brought about a trial of his faith which cost Job his business empire, wealth, honour, children, relations and even his health.
God is proud of those who are faithfully serving Him. He openly announced Jesus to the world immediately after His water baptism in River Jordan. After this, like Job, Jesus had to go into the wilderness to face temptations and a season of dryness.
Are you faithful and highly devoted to God? Do not be surprised when troubles and trials come your way. The fact is that God must have boasted of you to Satan and now Satan is trying to see if your faith in God will wane. Hold on faithfully in spite of odds, and the Lord will see you through. After the trial comes your promotion.
According to our reading, before God turned around Job’s captivity, he repented, confessed his faith in God’s ability to do all things, including reverse his captivity. He also forgave and prayed for his friends who had virtually mocked him. Every act of repentance, release of those who have offended you and obedience to God takes you closer to your restoration.
