THE RIGHT WORD

READ: MATTHEW 21:23-27
In today’s reading, Jesus was questioned on whose authority He did what He was doing. If He had said, He was using the authority of God, they would have tagged Him a ‘liar’ because He was not the High Priest. If He had said He was using His own authority, they would have debunked this also. He was aware of the trap they had set for Him so with a word of wisdom; He asked them about the authority that John the Baptist used. That question threw them into the pit they had dug for Him.
Apostle Paul was one servant of God who encountered troubles. In fact, his other name was trouble. Several times, after preaching the Gospel, people gathered to oppose him. At such times, he leaned on the Lord for a word of wisdom to get out of trouble. In Acts 22:24-28, when his detractors were about to scourge him, he asked them if it was lawful to scourge a Roman citizen and condemn him without trial. At this time, Roman citizens were highly regarded and protected. In fact, non-Roans who wanted to enjoy the same benefits bought Roman Citizenship. That single word from Paul turned the table around.
Do you know there is a right answer to every question? There is an answer you will give that will silence your opponents and enemies. There is an answer of comfort that you can give to the distressed, troubled, or bereaved that would put paid to sorrow in their lives. That answer is a word of wisdom. You can receive it from the Holy Spirit by asking and depending on Him. He is willing to give it to you. That answer is from Heaven. A heavenly answer to an earthly question more than solves the problem. Do not be too much in a hurry. Look up to the Holy Spirit for that right word. The word that will take you out of the woods is closer than you think. Lean on the Holy Spirit.
MEMORIZE: MATTHEW 21:27 –And they answered Jesus, and said, we cannot tell. And he said to them, neither tell I you by what authority, I do these things.
