SAMUEL 15:13-21
God is the
God of truth. He is so holy that there is no iota of lie in Him. In fact,
Hebrews 6:18 says it is impossible for God to lie. If we are truly born of the
Spirit and His seed is in us, why then do we still engage in lies? There are
several reasons many believers still lie. It could be a deliberate ploy to
deceive others through one’s cleverness. Ananias and Saphirra had engaged in
lies in the past without being caught. Over the period, they had branded
themselves ‘smart’ and eventually brought the same attitude to God’s house.
They never lived to tell the rest of the story (Acts 5:1-11). Have you reached
a point where your conscience does not prick you whenever you lie? That is a dangerous
sign of backsliding. Run to the Cross immediately to be born again once again.
Another reason for lying is fear. This takes different shades. A common type is fear of punishment. Students and young people deny what they have done because they do not want to be punished. Adults steal in offices, and when caught, deny for fear of facing the consequences of their evils. This is done to cover up sin like David did.
Similarly, people lie for fear of losing something precious. Abraham lied that Sarah was his sister because he did not want to loose his life. Many business people tell several lies because they do not want to loose profit to government; they want to maximize profit. For this purpose, some organisations have two accounts: One is manipulated to show very little profit margin in order to pay low taxes. The other account – the true one is maintained for internal use.
“The getting of treasures by a lying tongue is a vanity tossed to and fro of them that seek death.” (Proverbs 21:6). Acquiring wealth, treasures, certificates, visas to other countries through lies is vanity. A man cannot be established by fraudulent means. A house or anything built on lies will soon crumble. It will not last. Anyone who uses lies as a means to his end is actually courting death. Repent of your lies today and begin to live in and for the truth.
