OBTAINING PROMISES

READ: ROMANS 4:17-22

Any promise made by God to His children indicates two things: first, it reveals God’s perfect will, direction and desire for them. Secondly, it shows that they should put on the whole armour of God and begin to fight to have the promise.
Many have been robbed of every valuable promises and blessings in the past because they thought if God had promised them anything, it will automatically be fulfilled whether they do something about it or not. They support their argument with passages such as 2 Corinthians 1:20 and Matthew 24:35. This is a deception of the enemy.
Whatever promise the Lord has made to you, whether through rhema or logos of His word, would either be fulfilled or not, depending on certain conditions such as availability and exercise of faith to receive, ability to patiently wait for its fulfilment and to remain in right standing until the promise materializes.
“Therefore, since a promise remains of entering His rest, lest us fear lest any of you seem to have come short of it.” Hebrews 4:1. It is possible to lose any promise the Lord has made to you. God promised the Israelites rest but Hebrews 3:18 says because they could not believe He will fulfil His Word, God swore they will never enter the rest He had earlier promised them.
The Bible contains several promises God wants to bring to fulfilment in your life. He says you will prosper, and be in good health. He says you will get to your promised land. He says you will be victorious over your enemies and live long on earth, etc. The fulfilment of the se promises however depends wholly on you. Do you believe them? Do you pray and release your faith for their fulfilment in your life? Do you keep away sin from your heart and hands until they are realised? Through faith Abraham and other patriarchs of old obtained promises. Each promise of God that is obtained in your life is an indication of the reality of your faith in Christ. If no promise is fulfilled in your life, something is wrong somewhere.

MEMORIZE: ROMANS 4:20 –He did not waver at the promise of God through unbelief, but was strengthened in faith, giving glory to God.
