FLEE FROM THE BOTTLE

READ: 1 SAMUEL 25:36-37
When Abigail returned from meeting with David, she met her husband having a lavish feast and very drunk. In his unconscious state, little did he know that he would have been dead but for Abigail’s intervention. Many of your friends, relations and church members can be saved from great dangers if only you could intercede for them. To what extend do you stand in the gap for those in need? When was the last time you set aside a day or week to seek God’s face concerning your loved ones? The more you intercede for them the less evil will befall them.
Are you desirous of becoming God’s favourite? Do you still take alcoholic beverage once in a while? God clearly warns against this. Revelation 1:5-6 says Jesus Christ has made you a king and a priest to the Most High God. Proverbs 31:4-5 says kings must not take alcoholic wine. In Leviticus 10:8-11, God instructed Aaron and his sons not to drink intoxicating wine because of their calling as priests. There are several reasons you must abstain from wine. There is a strange link between alcohol and immorality. According to Proverbs 31:4-5, the believer who takes alcohol would see strange women while hallucinating. The act of drinking such brings you into Satan’s theatre where he will begin to show you pictures of naked women to excite your lust. Before you know it, you would be looking for means of physical sexual satisfaction.
In addition, alcohol will cause you to talk loosely. If you enemy succeeds in giving you the bottle, he will get to hear your deepest secrets from your own mouth. It also leads to defilement of God’s temple – your body. Heavy drinking is a cause of cancer of the liver. Drunkards live in an unreal world. Drinking alcohol can turn a responsible man into a wretched in one day. It can affect a man’s destiny.
Noah got drunk and saw nakedness as an experience to exploit. On coming round, he passed a curse on his innocent son who saw him in his foolish state (Genesis 9:20-25). Lot got drunk twice and went into an incestuous relationship with his two daughters. The products of their illicit affair were cursed even before birth. Anyone who drinks occasionally can be drunk. The one who cannot be drunk is the one who does not drink alcohol at all. Be that person. Be drunk with the Holy Spirit.
MEMORIZE: PROVERBS 20:1 –Wine is a mocker, strong drink is ranging and whosoever is deceived thereby is not wise.
