READ: JEREMIAH 32:18-19
It is a dangerous thing
to live without constant advice. Proverbs 11:14 says, “Where no counsel is, the people
fall; but in the multitude of counselors there is safety.” The one who
thinks he is always right and believes nobody else can be right is a fool
(Proverbs 13:10). No matter who you are, or your status in life, there is
always somebody you can learn from. Occasionally, you will require something
God has hidden in someone else. This is one reason you should read sound
Christian books. Through them, you can learn from experiences of others. You
can also hasten your spiritual growth by having access to the wisdom of older
Christians, acquired over several years.
“To the law and to the testimony; if they speak not according to this word, it is because there is no light in them” (Isaiah 8:20).
Whatever books you read must be compared with the Scriptures. As you have good counsel so do you have bad counsel. Psalm 1:1-3 warns us from receiving counsel from a set of ungodly people. Any counsel or learning that contradicts the Bible, must be disregarded. Such lacks the light that can assist your growth and spiritual development. Of all counselors, God is the only wonderful and excellent Counsellor (Isaiah 9:6). If you allow Him, He will advise you daily on every issue, until you meet Him in glory (Psalm 48:14).
To receive counsel from God, you must make up your mind to do as He says (Psalm 25:9). His advice may be out-of-the-way but it will surely lead you to your desired haven. In the Bible, God has some advice for His children. He advised those who want to get rid of poverty to give out the little they have (Luke 6:38). To provoke your showers of blessing, God advises you should load your cloud by sowing non-stop. To live in divine health, God advises you to be completely obedient to Him (Exodus 15:26). To be wise, God advises you to fear Him (Psalm 111:10). Take His advice today.
