PROTECTION FROM THE ANOINTING

READ: 1 SAMUEL 24:1-7
The anointing has several characteristics: one of which is that it protects. It’s my prayer that you will completely benefit from its protective cover this year in Jesus name. From today’s reading, after running for his life from cave to cave, David finally arrived at the cave at Engedi only to find that king Saul, who was desperately searching for an opportunity to kill him, was now at his mercy. This year, everyone chasing you will suddenly be put at your mercy. Whether they live or die will be determined by your decision in the mighty name of Jesus.
David’s men jumped at this sudden development thinking their years in exile and separation from their loved ones were over. All they needed to do was cut off the head of this enemy king and their rest was guaranteed! They even reminded him of God’s promised deliverance, claiming that was the day of its fulfillment. But David was more discerning. Verse six says, “And he said to his men, The LORD forbid that I should do this thing to my master’s, the LORD’s anointed, to stretch forth mine hand against him, seeing he is the anointed of the LORD”.
In other words, king Saul’s life was not spared because of his physical attributes, wealth, throne or any other antecedent, but the simple fact that he was God’s anointed. The anointing of God upon his life shielded him from instant death even though he had been rejected. Are you God’s anointed?
His anointing on you will protect you from instant death and destruction this year. How do you become His anointed? Some people think it is by pouring anointing oil over their heads. If you like empty drums of anointing oil on your head, it does not make you God’s anointed. Matthew 20:16 says some are ‘called’ while others are ‘chosen.’ Becoming an anointed of god means moving from being ‘called’ to being ‘chosen.’ This year, strive to be His anointed and enjoy the benefit of protection from the anointing.
MEMORIZE: 1 SAMUEL 24:5 –And it came to pass afterward, that David’s heart smote him, because he had cut off Saul’s skirt.
