READ: PSALM 89:44-48
The first time Abraham
is introduced to the Bible reading audience in Genesis 11:26, there was nothing
special about him. He was the first son of Terah. Then in Genesis 12:1-3, we
hear about him at age 75. The Bible is silent about what transpired between
when he was born and when he became 75 years. A popular American preacher who
visited heaven once said that when he met Apostle Paul, he asked why the Bible
was silent about his personal life. The reply he got was that it will not
benefit anybody. It is probable that Abraham’s first 75 years on earth were of
no benefit to anyone. They were just wasted!
“But this I say, brethren, the time is short; it remains, that both they that have wives be as though they had none” (1 Corinthians 7:29). Time is of great essence to us as modern day believers in Christ. Tick! Tick! Tick! Each second that ticks away is lost forever. Abraham knew the Lord when he was 75 years old. This meant he had a shorter time to walk with God. Today, we have the benefit of knowing the Lord early, even between the age of six and 10

But of what benefit is this advantage? If you
can convert Abraham’s wasted 75 years and daily engage them in fruitful soul
winning and conscientious service to God, you will be a king in heaven. Some
Christians have been born again for 10, 20, 30 or even more years. If you look
at their lives, they have remained stagnant, fruitless and calling for God’s
axe. Others have remained in the church for years but have refused to take
steps to become workers in God’s vineyard. Like Abraham, they are wasting away.
The time you are wasting could be productively used. You can use the fleeting time to be of benefit and service in God’s house. In addition, such times could be invested in putting a smile on the faces of others and in improving their lives. One day, you will account for the time God gave to you on earth. Let it not be in vain. God has called you like Abraham not because you were anything special, but because He wants His strength to combine with your weakness to make you victorious over situations and circumstances of life. How are you handling your free moments? Take a look at the areas you have been wasting time. Put a stop to it. And according to Colossians 4:5, put every second into deliberate and purposeful use.
