AVENUES FOR REWARD

READ: ROMANS 4:17-22
A true Christian is a wise investor. He ensures a bulk of what he makes on earth is ploughed into God’s kingdom in order to enrich his heavenly account. There are other ways you can grow your heavenly account. According to our reading, you can do this through acts of righteousness. “For what says the scripture? Abraham believed God, and it was counted to him for righteousness” (Romans 4:3).
Whatever is counted to you as a righteous act is rewardable by God. Abraham’s ability to believe God’s promise in the face of negative situations, until it came to pass, earned him the title of father of faith.
Apart from this, it was imputed to him as righteousness. Hebrews 11:6 says that God rewards acts of faith. Holding onto prophesies and promises the Lord has given you is an act of faith. Living a godly life in a crooked generation is an act of faith. Overcoming Satan’s temptations and the attractions of the world is an act of faith. Such acts will help to load your heavenly account. “Cast not away therefore your confidence, which has great recompense of reward” (Hebrews 10:35).
Apart from this, living by God’s word and teaching it, is another
way to earn big rewards in Heaven. In fact, according to Matthew 5:19, you have to live by God’s word before you can teach it. To get this great reward, you must be a doer and teacher of the whole counsel of God. Doing one and leaving out the other, robs you of greatness in Heaven. Are you living by God’s word? Do you teach it too? All of God’s commandments must be obeyed. They are not for decoration. Each of them you obey attracts a reward. If you tithe, attend fellowship regularly, pray and fast often, give offerings, spend time in God’s service, exhort and encourage others, disciple others, restore backsliders, assist the poor and needy etc, you will heap credits into your heavenly account.
According to Psalm 31:19, the fear of God further adds to your account in Heaven. Galatians 6:7-10 says every seed you sow into God’s Kingdom as well as every good work will attract a reward. Your Christian life and good deeds are for yourself. You are working for yourself, not your pastor or anybody else. So do not allow anything to hinder your heavenly greatness. Live for Jesus today.
