UNWANTED RESIDENT

READ: 1 SAMUEL 18:17-21
“But when the Jew saw the multitudes, they were filled with envy, and spoke against those things which were spoken by Paul, contradicting and blaspheming.” (Acts 13:45). The church today is being attacked by the spirit of envy. Several church splits have resulted from envy. Several members have had to change places of worship because of envy. Some people out of envy have had to start their own churches. They do not know that any offering, sacrifice and service whose foundation is envy cannot have the blessing or backing of the Most High. One reason criticism and discrimination are rife in the body of Christ today is envy.
The Jews were envious because virtually the whole city showed up to hear Paul and Barnabas preach the gospel. Instead of glorifying God, they began to criticize them and blaspheme against God. When you envy a man of God, you will most likely blaspheme. It is a terrible thing to blaspheme, especially against the Holy Spirit because there is no forgiveness for such sins, both in this world and in the world to come. Several messages emanating from pulpits today are inspired by the spirit of envy, not the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit cannot contradict Himself. Some preachers have had to preach against the very meetings that the Holy Spirit had summoned. If they were under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit at such times, they would affirm rather than criticize. If you are too critical the spirit of envy may be residing in you. “A sound heart is the life of the flesh: but envy the rottenness of the bones.” (Proverbs 14:30)
In addition, envy is not good for the body. Most incurable illnesses such as hypertension, bone cancer and so on, are the products of envy. Envy makes your bones to rot. If the bones rot, the marrow where new blood is formed will be affected. If the marrow becomes thick, the blood will be thick and this may lead to other health complications. If you love good health and long life, stay clear of envy. Thank God for what He is doing in and through the lives of others. In His time, He will make all things beautiful. Your own time will come. Never be in a hurry. Nothing can be better than waiting for God’s appointed time. Are you envying anyone? Repent and live right.
