READ: 1 SAMUEL 23:16-18
“So shall My word be that goes forth out of My
mouth: it shall not return to Me void, but it shall accomplish that which I
please, and it shall prosper in the thing whereto I sent it.” (Isaiah 55:11)
Whatever God says you will become is what you will be. No matter what the devil does, God’s plan for your life will be established in Jesus name. God’s word is always backed up by His power to ensure God gets His desired outcomes. Jonathan went to encourage David in the woods and assured him there was nothing his father could do to stop him from succeeding him while he, Jonathan, would succeed David. We learn a few lessons from this. You would observe the ease with which Jonathan could meet with David whereas his father had been searching fruitlessly for him. This tells us that if your ways are pleasing to God, good things will not miss your address. In the same way evil arrows will never locate you.
We also learn that Jonathan behaved contrary to his father’s posture. He refused to fight against what he saw as God’s will even though it appeared humiliating for him as a prince and an heir to the throne to step down for David. While you learn from anyone you have taken as your mentor, never copy their bad habits. Do not be like a photostating machine that will reproduce everything placed before it! Be a selective copier. Copy only the good in your spiritual fathers and parents or else you will fall where they fell, and their weaknesses will be more pronounced in your life. Another lesson is that Jonathan loved with a motive. He wanted to be second in command. God expects you to love unconditionally like He does. That is where lies the greatest rewards. Jonathan told David he would succeed his father and that his father can never defeat him. God can use anyone to bring you a word of prophecy. He can use anyone to help you out of crisis. It also shows that your enemies can sometimes know of God’s plan for your life like Joseph’s brothers did. They may plan against you, but Psalm 27:1-2 says they shall stumble and fall. Stay close to Jesus the only One who cannot betray His love for you. Live righteously and in total obedience to Him. Make Him happy everyday. No enemy will rejoice over you.
