COMMON FOE; COMMON FRIEND

READ: 1 SAMUEL 22:20-23
King Saul asked Doeg to kill all the priests of the Lord and he promptly obeyed. Abiathar alone escaped and reported the incident to David. David lamented the death of members of Abiathar’s father’s house and accepted full responsibility. Thereafter he told him they have a common enemy and that he should stay with him. If you have given your life to Jesus, you have escaped the corruption of this world which is propelled by lust (2 Peter 1:4). You have also escaped the curse of the law (Galatians 3:13). But greater still, you have escaped eternity in hell (Revelation 20:15).
Like Abiathar and David, for everyone who has escaped, their common enemy is Satan. Satan is passionately angry with those who has escaped. According to John 10:10, all oppression in your life emanates from the devil – be it sickness, poverty, failure, fruitlessness. 1 Peter 5:8-9 says he is the same person hunting for the soul of every child of God all over the world. If we truly have the same enemy, then we should join forces to fight him. Whenever you see Satan in operation, you should team up with other believers there to stop him.
Everyone who has escaped from Satan’s slave market also has a common Friend. The one who rescued us from Satan is our Friend. His name is Jesus. He is ever working against fresh satanic plans targeted at us. If we have a common friend therefore, we should make friends with fellow believers and love one another. According to John 13:34-35, it is the love we will show towards other brethren that will distinguish us as His disciples. Loving other disciples of Jesus is not a matter of choice. It is a mandate from the over of our souls.
Are you putting the battle in array against your brother? Have you resolved to fight him to finish? Have you begun to see that sister as your enemy? Are you strategizing and equipping your armoury in readiness to fight a fellow believer? Stop! You are facing the wrong target. Even if you kill him, the problem will continue. He is not your enemy even though he may be the medium used. The devil is the enemy. Direct your missiles and fire power against Satan and the demons operating through the human medium. You will have your victory.
MEMORIZE: 1 SAMUEL 22:23 –Abide you with me, fear not: for he that seeks my life seeks your life: but with me you shall be in safeguard.
