UNBRIDLED TONGUE

READ: PROVERBS 17:27-28
One way Christian put their tongues into wrong use is through being talkative. A talkative person is one who is fond of talking. Research has it that the average person speaks 50,000 words daily. You can be sure a talkative believer will double or triple that figure. Talking too much is a sin. Proverbs 10:19 says: “In the multitude of words there wants not sin; but he that refrains his lips is wise.” This means that the one who talks too much is never free from sin, especially errors of utterance such as gossiping, backbiting, lying, exaggeration, flattery, curses and abuses, negative confessions, exposition of secrets to enemies, etc. It is a foolish thing to be talkative.
Psalm 64:1-3 likens the tongue to a sharpened sword, and bitter words as arrows. James 3:6 says the tongue is a type of fire which could be destructive if wrongly used. As a child of God, it is important to watch what you say, how it is said, why it is said, when it is said and to whom it is said because your tongue contains the power of life and death (Proverbs 18:21). A mark of Christian maturity is the ability to control your tongue. A talkative person is controlled by his tongue. He talks before thinking. Never keep a talkative person as a friend. If you do, before long, what you asked him to keep secret would be common knowledge.
God defines His relationship with the talkative believer. He cannot entrust His secret with him because of his unbridled tongue. He will always look for someone else to ‘gossip’ with. Never agree to go with a talkative. He will open his mouth wide and talk out the anointing of God in his life. Hence talkative persons, most times, are empty vessels. He will court trouble when there is none; he will create one with his tongue (Proverbs 21:23). It is the mouth of a talkative person that will dig his grave and bury him in it (Proverbs 18:7). The Scriptures call him a fool. How have you been using your tongue ? Be wise. Keep your mouth shut and you will prolong your life (Proverbs 13 :3). If you want to enter Heaven, then you must keep the doors of your mouth shut. It not compulsory to speak wherever you go. Silence is golden and regarded as wisdom. Think before you say anything. You must deal with talkativeness if you must be what God has planned for you to be.
