SINGLE-MINDED PURSUIT

READ: 1 KINGS 17:14-22
Satan is very stubborn enemy. Once he has set out to achieve something, he goes all out. Even after several defeats, he continues in spite of the odds. This is why 1 Peter 5:9 says you should resist him steadfastly. That means whenever and wherever he comes against you, resist him. If he comes through your colleagues in the office resist him. If he shows up in Church, resist him. If he surfaces in your home, resist him. Morning, afternoon and night resist him.
In 1 Kings 17:14-24, we see how Satan pursues his targets single-mindedly. He tried to kill the boy through the famine but the Lord intervened by sending Elijah to bring the miracle of multiplication. When this plan failed, Satan struck the boy with sickness which led to his death. The devil will not find you to devour. David is another case in point. As soon as he was anointed king, Satan decided to eliminate him. He sent a lion to him but God gave david victory. The devil sent a bear and again God gave him victory. So he decided to send Goliath (1 Samuel 17:34-37). David used his past victories as basis to receive the greater victory over Goliath. Yet Satan was not through or tired. He left the battlefield and came to the palace. He gathered a strange choir to sing David’s praise and thereby provoked king Saul to kill him. That was the beginning of a hot and prolonged persecution of David. Saul even planned to kill him at home but God delivered him.
For Satan, if David did not die in the bush, he will in the battlefield. If this failed, then he will die in the palace. If he misses this, he will die at home by the hands of his wife, Michal. Or else he will die in exile. In spite of Satan’s persistence, he could not succeed. Is Satan chasing hard after you? He will not catch up with you. If he is determined to kill you, the Lord is more determined to deliver you and make a mockery of Satan’s schemes. In any case, believers should also be single-minded in their pursuits. For instance, it is better to fast over one or two issues than ten in one day. Stay far from sin. Live a life that glorifies God daily. Listen to the Holy Spirit for directions, instructions, and warnings. The Lord will deliver you. No matter how hard the devil tries to get you, he will keep failing. Submit completely to God today.
MEMORIZE: PROVERBS 4:16 –For they sleep not, expect they have done mischief; and their sleep is taken away, unless they cause some to fall.
